Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the man who had been mute began to speak, and the crowds were amazed.

They brought to him a deaf man who had difficulty speaking, and they asked him to place his hands on him.After Jesus took him aside privately, away from the crowd, he put his fingers in the man’s ears, and after spitting, he touched his tongue.Then he looked up to heaven and said with a sigh,“ Ephphatha”( that is,“ Be opened”).And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his tongue loosened, and he spoke plainly.Jesus ordered them not to tell anything. But as much as he ordered them not to do this, they proclaimed it all the more.People were completely astounded and said,“ He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Then the lame will leap like a deer, the mute tongue will shout for joy; for water will flow in the desert, streams in the wilderness.

The LORD said to him,“ Who gave a mouth to man, or who makes a person mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?So now go, and I will be with your mouth and will teach you what you must say.”

Then large crowds came to him bringing with them the lame, blind, crippled, mute, and many others. They laid them at his feet, and he healed them.As a result, the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.

You did miracles and amazing deeds in the land of Egypt which have had lasting effect. By this means you gained both in Israel and among humankind a renown that lasts to this day.

And immediately the man stood up, took his stretcher, and went out in front of them all. They were all amazed and glorified God, saying,“ We have never seen anything like this!”

When Elisha the prophet heard that the king had torn his clothes, he sent this message to the king,“ Why did you tear your clothes? Send him to me so he may know there is a prophet in Israel.”

God has revealed himself in Judah; in Israel his reputation is great.

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him. He turned and said to the crowd that followed him,“ I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith!”
