耶穌對他們說：「新郎與賓客在一起的時候，難道賓客能悲傷嗎？可是日子將要來到：當新郎從他們中間被帶走的時候，他們那時就要禁食了。

耶穌曰、新娶者偕在、賀娶者豈能哀慟乎、惟日將至、新娶者見接而去、乃禁食耳、

耶穌答曰、新娶者、與賀娶之客同在、賀娶之客、豈能悲哀乎、惟將來新娶者別之去、彼時則禁食、

耶穌對曰：『新壻之友、方伴新壻、詎能哀泣？他日新壻被刼而去、斯彼齋戒時矣。

Jesus answered,“ How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.

Jesus replied,“ Do wedding guests mourn while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

And Jesus said to them,“ The attendants of the groom cannot mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

Jesus said to them,“ The wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.

He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.

He said to me,“ Write,‘ Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.’” He said to me,“ These are true words of God.”

I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.

Most certainly I tell you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said,“ Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

When they had appointed elders for them in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

In that day, the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, called to weeping, to mourning, to baldness, and to dressing in sackcloth;

Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem.They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.While they talked and questioned together, Jesus himself came near, and went with them.But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.He said to them,“ What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?”One of them, named Cleopas, answered him,“ Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things which have happened there in these days?”He said to them,“ What things?” They said to him,“ The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

“ Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom.Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them,but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.But at midnight there was a cry,‘ Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!’Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.The foolish said to the wise,‘ Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’But the wise answered, saying,‘ What if there isn’t enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.

Don’t deprive one another, unless it is by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Satan doesn’t tempt you because of your lack of self- control.

She shall be led to the king in embroidered work. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you.With gladness and rejoicing they shall be led. They shall enter into the king’s palace.

But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart.

When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.Samson said to them,“ Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can tell me the answer within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;but if you can’t tell me the answer, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him,“ Tell us your riddle, that we may hear it.”He said to them,“ Out of the eater came out food. Out of the strong came out sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife,“ Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”Samson’s wife wept before him, and said,“ You just hate me, and don’t love me. You’ve told a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it to me.” He said to her,“ Behold, I haven’t told my father or my mother, so why should I tell you?”She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,“ What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them,“ If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck thirty men of them. He took their plunder, then gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his friend.

When he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,

in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness.
