那时，约翰的门徒来问耶稣：“我们和法利赛人常常禁食，为什么你的门徒不禁食呢？”

那時，約翰的門徒來見耶穌，說：「我們和法利賽人常常禁食，你的門徒倒不禁食，這是為甚麼呢？」

隨後，約翰的門徒們前來問耶穌：「為什麼我們和法利賽人經常禁食，而你的門徒們卻不禁食呢？」

時、約翰之門徒至、曰、我與法利賽人數禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

約翰之門徒就耶穌曰、我與𠵽唎㘔人、往往禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

Then John’s disciples came and asked him,“ How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day John’s disciples came. They said to Jesus,“ We and the Pharisees often go without eating. Why don’t your disciples go without eating?”

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John* came to Him, asking,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

约翰的门徒和法利赛人都在禁食的时候，有人来问耶稣：“约翰的门徒和法利赛人的门徒禁食，为什么你的门徒不禁食呢？”耶稣对他们说：“新郎还在的时候，宾客怎能在婚宴中禁食呢？新郎还跟他们在一起的时候，他们不该禁食。但有一天新郎将被带走，那时他们就要禁食了。“没有人会用新布来补旧衣服，因为新布会把旧衣服扯破，破洞会更大；也没有人把新酒倒进旧皮囊里，否则新酒会胀破旧皮囊，酒和皮囊都毁了。所以，新酒一定要装在新皮囊里。”

他们说：“约翰的门徒常常禁食祷告，法利赛人的门徒也是一样，可是你的门徒却又吃又喝。”耶稣说：“新郎还跟宾客在一起的时候，岂能让宾客禁食？但有一天新郎将被带走，那时他们就要禁食了。”耶稣又给他们讲了一个比喻，说：“没有人会从新衣服上撕下一块布来，补在旧衣服上。否则，不但新衣服撕破了，旧衣服和新补丁也不相称。同样，没有人把新酒装进旧皮囊里，否则新酒会把旧皮囊胀破，酒也漏了，皮囊也毁了。所以新酒一定要装在新皮囊里。但是，没有人喝过陈年老酒后，还愿意喝新酒，因为他会说，‘还是陈年老酒好。’”

“你们禁食的时候，不要像伪君子那样愁眉苦脸，因为他们故意蓬头垢面，好让别人知道他们在禁食。我实在告诉你们，他们得到的赏赐不过是人的赞赏。

约翰来了，也不吃也不喝，他们就说他被鬼附身。人子来了，又吃又喝，他们就说祂是贪吃好酒之徒，与税吏和罪人为友。然而智慧会在她的作为上得到验证。”

耶稣对那些自以为义、藐视别人的人讲了一个比喻：“有两个人到圣殿里祷告，一个是法利赛人，一个是税吏。法利赛人站在那里自言自语地祷告说，‘上帝啊！我感谢你，因为我不像别人那样勒索、不义、通奸，也不像这税吏。我每周禁食两次，奉献全部收入的十分之一。’

约翰的门徒和一个犹太人为了洁净的礼仪争辩起来，

人都声称自己忠诚，但谁能找到忠信者？

约翰在监狱中听到基督所做的事，就差两个门徒去问祂：

耶稣得知法利赛人听见祂收门徒、为人施洗比约翰还多，便离开犹太回加利利。其实不是耶稣亲自施洗，而是祂的门徒施洗。
