Jesus heard this. So he said,“ Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.

On hearing this, Jesus said,“ It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

Now when he heard this, he said,“ It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick.

Jesus answered them,“ Healthy people don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.

You say,“ I am rich. I’ve become wealthy and don’t need anything.” But you don’t realize how pitiful and miserable you have become. You are poor, blind and naked.So here’s my advice. Buy from me gold made pure by fire. Then you will become rich. Buy from me white clothes to wear. Then you will be able to cover the shame of your naked bodies. And buy from me healing lotion to put on your eyes. Then you will be able to see.

“ But now I will bring health and healing to Jerusalem. I will heal my people. I will let them enjoy great peace and security.

But the crowds learned about it and followed Jesus. He welcomed them and spoke to them about God’s kingdom. He also healed those who needed to be healed.

Jesus heard that. So he said to them,“ Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do. I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners to follow me.”

He heals those who have broken hearts. He takes care of their wounds.

Lord, heal me. Then I will be healed. Save me from my enemies. Then I will be saved. You are the one I praise.

But I will make you healthy again. I will heal your wounds,” announces the Lord.“ That’s because you have been thrown out. You are called Zion, the one no one cares about.”

Before I knew about the law, I was alive. But then the commandment came. Sin came to life, and I died.I found that the commandment that was supposed to bring life actually brought death.When the commandment gave sin the opportunity, sin tricked me. It used the commandment to put me to death.So the law is holy. The commandment also is holy and right and good.Did what is good cause me to die? Not at all! Sin had to be recognized for what it really is. So it used what is good to bring about my death. Because of the commandment, sin became totally sinful.We know that the law is holy. But I am not. I have been sold to be a slave of sin.I don’t understand what I do. I don’t do what I want to do. Instead, I do what I hate to do.I do what I don’t want to do. So I agree that the law is good.As it is, I am no longer the one who does these things. It is sin living in me that does them.I know there is nothing good in my desires controlled by sin. I want to do what is good, but I can’t.I don’t do the good things I want to do. I keep on doing the evil things I don’t want to do.I do what I don’t want to do. But I am not really the one who is doing it. It is sin living in me that does it.Here is the law I find working in me. When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.Deep inside me I find joy in God’s law.But I see another law working in me. It fights against the law of my mind. It makes me a prisoner of the law of sin. That law controls me.What a terrible failure I am! Who will save me from this sin that brings death to my body?

I said,“ Lord, have mercy on me. Heal me, because I have sinned against you.”

Lord, have mercy on me. I’m so weak. Lord, heal me. My body is full of pain.

Then the Lord will answer,“ My people always wander away from me. But I will put an end to that. My anger has turned away from them. Now I will love them freely.

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed.‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people,’ he said.‘ I am not like robbers or those who do other evil things. I am not like those who commit adultery. I am not even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week. And I give a tenth of all I get.’“ But the tax collector stood farther away than the Pharisee. He would not even look up to heaven. He brought his hand to his heart and prayed. He said,‘ God, have mercy on me. I am a sinner.’

A woman was there who had a sickness that made her bleed. Her sickness had lasted for 12 years. No one could heal her.
