A thoroughfare will be there– it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it; it is reserved for those authorized to use it– fools will not stray into it.

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage– I have conquered the world.”

They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying,“ We must enter the kingdom of God through many persecutions.”

in which you formerly lived according to this world’s present path, according to the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the ruler of the spirit that is now energizing the sons of disobedience,among whom all of us also formerly lived out our lives in the cravings of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath even as the rest…

So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

“ At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.Five of the virgins were foolish, and five were wise.When the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take extra olive oil with them.But the wise ones took flasks of olive oil with their lamps.When the bridegroom was delayed a long time, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.But at midnight there was a shout,‘ Look, the bridegroom is here! Come out to meet him.’Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.The foolish ones said to the wise,‘ Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’‘ No,’ they replied.‘ There won’t be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’But while they had gone to buy it, the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding banquet. Then the door was shut.Later, the other virgins came too, saying,‘ Lord, lord! Let us in!’But he replied,‘ I tell you the truth, I do not know you!’

The LORD said to his people:“ You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths are. Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it. If you do, you will find rest for your souls.” But they said,“ We will not follow it!”

And Isaiah cries out on behalf of Israel,“ Though the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, only the remnant will be saved,for the Lord will execute his sentence on the earth completely and quickly.”Just as Isaiah predicted,“ If the Lord of armies had not left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have resembled Gomorrah.”

after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the ark a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water.And this prefigured baptism, which now saves you– not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience to God– through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

We sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and encourage you about your faith,so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. He says,“ Build it! Build it! Clear a way! Remove all the obstacles out of the way of my people!”

“ Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.

Make the path for your feet level, so that all your ways may be established.Do not turn to the right or to the left; turn yourself away from evil.

They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

So the last will be first, and the first last.”

Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but( as if it were possible) by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
