故吾語爾、毋庸岌岌於何食何飲以養生、何衣以蔽體。夫生不貴於食、體不貴於衣乎？

故此我告訴你們，不要為你們的性命來掛慮、要喫甚麼、或喝甚麼；也不要為你們的身體來掛慮、要穿甚麼。性命不是勝於食物，而身體勝於服裝麼？

「所以我告訴你們：不要為你們的生命而憂慮吃什麼、喝什麼；也不要為你們的身體而憂慮穿什麼；難道生命不比食物更重要，身體不比衣服更重要嗎？

故我語汝、勿慮生何以食、何以飲、身何以衣、夫生非大於食、身非大於衣乎、

故我告爾、勿為生命憂慮何以食、何以飲、勿為身體憂慮何以衣、生命不重於糧乎、身體不重於衣乎、

“ That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life— whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

“ Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?

“ For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

“ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing?

Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

爾宜無憂。爾有所需、宜用懇切之祈禱、感激之情緖、向天主坦率陳之；

故毋事憂慮、曰吾將何食何飲何以敝體。

且爾中孰能憑其思慮、而自延尺寸之壽命？若夫衣飾之事、更何所用其焦慮？盍視田野之玉簪花如何發榮滋長、既不勞作、又不紡績、

天主以其聖子為我眾捨生、猶且不惜、尚何吝以一切萬有并賜於我耶？

其言柔如膏。傷人勝似刀。

爾被解時勿慮將如何言、當作何語；屆時必示爾所當言；

乃顧謂其徒曰：『故予語爾、勿慮生何以食、身何以衣。蓋生貴於食、身貴於衣也。盍觀群鴉、不稼不穡、無庫無倉、而天主猶養之畜之。爾之貴於飛禽、不亦多乎？且爾中誰能憑其思慮、而自延尺寸之壽命乎？此至微者、爾尚無能為力、遑恤其他。盍觀玉簪花、不勞不紡、而其發榮滋長、為如何耶？吾語爾、即所羅門之黼黻文章、盛極一時者、以視一朵玉簪猶有遜色。夫野草今日在田、明日投爐、天主猶飾之如此、況於爾乎？噫、何爾信心之薄也。是故勿謀何飲何食、毋事營營汲汲；凡此皆世俗之所營。爾之有需於此、爾父庸有不知？惟先求天國、餘物自加於爾矣。

勿為明日慮、蓋明日亦自有其所慮也。一日之累、不已足乎。

總之、予欲爾無憂無慮也。無妻者能專心事主、惟求取悅於主；

內有世俗之憂慮、貨利之迷惑、嗜欲之萌動、相與交攻於中、而壅塞其道、宜其不實也；

落荊棘中者、言人聞道之後、漸為世慮貨利聲色所蔽、弗克成熟；

夫從軍者、欲得其長官之獎許、必專心一志、不以雜務自累。

其播於棘中者、聞道之後、世慮縈懷、利慾熏心、遂壅塞其道、乃至無實。

予語爾凡認予於人前者、人子亦必認之於天主之眾天神前。其不認予於人前者、亦不被認於天主眾神之前也。

瑪大忙於治席、向主訴曰：『妹任我獨自操勞、主寧無顧？請命之起而襄助。』主應曰：『瑪大！瑪大！爾煩心焦慮、所務何多！

立身處世、切莫貪財；若能知足、則常樂矣。天主不云乎：『我決不爾棄、有急我當濟。』然則吾人應可泰然無憂、怡然而歌曰：『有主相佑、遑恤其他？血氣之倫、其如我何？』

當爾被緝付官之日、毋庸勞心焦思、預備其詞；時至、一依所默啟者言之可也。蓋言者非爾、實為聖神。

人曳爾至會堂、或有司之前、毋庸鰓鰓過慮、其何以辯護、如何措詞、

吾友乎、予語爾、彼僅能殺人之身、而餘無能為者、不足畏也。予今告爾、孰當畏者、既殺其身、而又能投之於地獄者、斯足畏焉。予勸爾畏之。

吾乃語爾、凡忿怒其兄弟者受判；詈兄弟曰「蠢才」者、難免讞院之罰；曰「匪類」者、難免地獄之火。倘爾詣壇前獻禮、而忽憶有負兄弟者、宜姑置禮物於壇前、先與之和、再來獻禮。爾與控爾者尚在途中、速與之睦、恐彼送爾於讞官、讞官發爾於隸、而爾下獄矣。吾實告爾、非分毫悉償、弗克出獄。爾已聞誡曰：「毋犯姦非。」第吾語爾、見婦人而懷邪念、心中已犯姦非矣。
