“ Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

『別為自己積儹財寶在地上了；地上有蟲子和鏽能弄壞，地上有賊能挖窟窿來偷。

「你們不要為自己在地上積蓄財寶，地上有蟲蛀，會鏽蝕，也有盜賊鑽進來偷竊；

勿積財於地、其處蠹蝕銹壞、盜穴而竊之、

勿積財於地蠹食銹壞、盜穴而竊之處、

勿積財於地、彼有蠹蝕朽壞、有盜穿窬而竊、

爾毋儲富於地；蠹蝕焉、銹敗焉、竊者穿窬而盜焉。

“ Do not gather for yourselves riches on earth. Moths and rats can destroy them. Thieves can break in and steal them.

“ Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

So it is with the one who stores up riches for himself, but is not rich toward God.”

Come now, you rich! Weep and cry aloud over the miseries that are coming on you.Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth- eaten.Your gold and silver have rusted and their rust will be a witness against you. It will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have hoarded treasure!

Do not wear yourself out to become rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself.When you gaze upon riches, they are gone, for they surely make wings for themselves, and fly off into the sky like an eagle!

But if we have food and shelter, we will be satisfied with that.Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is the root of all evils. Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.

Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him,“ One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

How much better it is to acquire wisdom than gold; to acquire understanding is more desirable than silver.

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves purses that do not wear out– a treasure in heaven that never decreases, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s angry judgment. The whole earth will be consumed by his fiery wrath. Indeed, he will bring terrifying destruction on all who live on the earth.”

The one who loves money will never be satisfied with money, he who loves wealth will never be satisfied with his income. This also is futile.When someone’s prosperity increases, those who consume it also increase; so what does its owner gain, except that he gets to see it with his eyes?The sleep of the laborer is pleasant– whether he eats little or much– but the wealth of the rich will not allow him to sleep.Here is a misfortune on earth that I have seen: Wealth hoarded by its owner to his own misery.Then that wealth was lost through bad luck; although he fathered a son, he has nothing left to give him.

Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger.

When Jesus noticed this, he said,“ How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!

Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it!

Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. Surely they accumulate worthless wealth without knowing who will eventually haul it away.”

Jesus said to him,“ If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

“ If I have put my confidence in gold or said to pure gold,‘ You are my security!’

For to the one who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, he gives the task of amassing wealth– only to give it to the one who pleases God. This task of the wicked is futile– like chasing the wind!
