與其使一小子失足陷罪、孰若磨石懸頸、而被投於海之為愈乎！

經云：『慎之哉、余以躓人之石、礙人之磐、置於西温；惟能置信者、決不失望。』顧義塞人則見躓於斯石矣。

予今告爾、孰當畏者、既殺其身、而又能投之於地獄者、斯足畏焉。予勸爾畏之。

時耶穌謂徒曰：『今夕爾等皆將因予而不能自持矣。經不云乎：「予擊牧者、群羊四散。」

苟使信我之一介小子墮入罪中、不如磨石繫頸、沉諸淵海之為愈也。哀哉斯世、以其梗障之多也。梗障之生、在所不免、而甘為梗障之緣者、哀莫大焉。

第內無根核、末能有恆、及因道而遇困厄、則頹然而廢矣。

王乃謂侍者曰：「縛其手足、投之幽獄、必有哀哭切齒者矣。」

耶穌顧謂伯鐸祿曰：『沙殫退去！汝為我梗。汝但體人情、不體天意。』

豈可為食物之細故、而破壞天主之妙工。凡物皆淨、固矣；然若以爾之食、為厲之階、凶莫甚焉！孰若不食肉不飲酒、以免滋人疑惑之為愈乎。

是故食物若為吾兄弟躓蹶之緣、吾寧永不食肉、而不敢為兄弟之厲階也。

兄弟乎、苟我今猶鼓吹割禮、則何為尚受排擯耶？夫然則十字架亦不當復被視為眼中釘矣。
