所以你們要看這在地上的肢體為死了的：就如淫亂、污穢、邪情、惡慾、和貪婪、（就是一種的拜偶像）。

因為你們若順着肉體而活，就必死；若順着靈治死你們身體上的行為，就必活。

所以基督既在肉身受過苦，你們就該穿着以下這樣的信念為軍裝，承認在肉身受過苦的人是已止絕了罪，不再順着人的私慾，乃順着上帝的旨意，來度肉身上剩餘的時光。在過去的時光，你們作出外國人所執意作的，行於邪蕩、私慾、沉醉、荒宴、狂飲、和違例可憎之偶像崇拜、已經夠了。

屬基督耶穌的人是已經把肉體、同各樣的惡情和私慾、都釘上十字架了。

因為知道我們的舊人已經和他同釘十字架，使罪的身體無能為力，叫我們不再給罪做奴僕；

我乃是痛打我的身體，驅使它做奴僕，恐怕我宣傳給別人，自己反成了不中用的！

假使你的一隻手或一隻腳使你絆跌，把它砍下來，丟掉吧；你殘廢或瘸腿進入生命，比有兩隻手或兩隻腳而被丟在永世的火裏倒好呢。假使你的一隻眼使你絆跌，把它剜出來，丟掉吧；你獨眼進入生命，比有兩隻眼而被丟在火燒的地獄裏倒好呢。

因為凡想要救自己性命的，必失掉性命；凡為我失掉自己性命的，必救得真性命。人贏得全世界、卻失掉自己或賠上自己，有甚麼益處呢？

人贏得全世界，而賠上了自己的性命，有甚麼益處呢？

人若贏得全世界，卻賠上自己的性命，能得着甚麼益處呢？人要拿出甚麼來對換自己的性命呢？

但是我告訴你們：凡向弟兄發怒的，必須擔受判罰；凡罵弟兄為「飯桶」的，必須擔受議院的判罰；凡罵弟兄為「傻瓜」的，必須擔受地獄的火。

要使你所行的路離她遙遠；不可走近她住所的門口；免得將你的尊榮給予別人，將你的歲月付諸殘忍無情者；免得陌生人飽得你的資財，而你勤勞得來的歸入外人之家；終久你的皮肉你的肉身衰殘，你就哀哼着說：『唉！我怎樣恨惡管教，我的心怎樣藐視勸責，不聽我導師的話，不傾耳聽從教師呀！如今我在會眾公會中幾乎受到極刑了！』

蛇啊，毒蛇的種啊，你們怎能逃避地獄的定罪呢？

因為有閹人是從母胎生下來就這樣的；有閹人是被閹的；也有閹人是為天國的緣故自己閹的。能接受的，讓他接受。』

經學士和法利賽人、假冒為善的人哪，你們有禍啊！因為你們周遊了洋海旱地，使一個人成了歸依人，既歸依了，你們又使他做該入地獄的人，比你們還加倍！

對那些殺身體而不能殺靈魂的，你們不要怕；惟獨對那能把靈魂又把身體都滅在地獄裏的，你們倒要怕。

我要指示你們應當怕誰：你們要怕那把你們殺了以後、又有權柄把你們丟在地獄裏的；實在的、我告訴你們，你們要怕這一位。
