Jesus answered,“ It is written:‘ Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written:‘ He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’ ”Jesus then said to them,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”Then they said to Him,“ Lord, always give us this bread.”Jesus said to them,“ I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.But I said to you that you have indeed seen Me, and yet you do not believe.Everything that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I certainly will not cast out.For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that of everything that He has given Me I will lose nothing, but will raise it up on the last day.For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”So then the Jews were complaining about Him because He said,“ I am the bread that came down out of heaven.”And they were saying,“ Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say,‘ I have come down out of heaven’?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Stop complaining among yourselves.No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.It is written in the Prophets:‘ And they shall all be taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father.Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life.I am the bread of life.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.This is the bread that comes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and not die.I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world also is My flesh.”Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying,“ How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”So Jesus said to them,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, the one who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.This is the bread that came down out of heaven, not as the fathers ate and died; the one who eats this bread will live forever.”These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another,“ What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them,“ It is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

And the sons of Israel ate the manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Jesus replied to him,“ It is written:‘ You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’ ”

And Moses said,“ This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the Lord.”

So Jesus, after raising His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him,* said to Philip,“ Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?”But He was saying this only to test him, for He Himself knew what He intended to do.Philip answered Him,“ Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, for each to receive just a little!”One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother,* said to Him,“ There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?”Jesus said,“ Have the people recline to eat.” Now there was plenty of grass in the place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.Jesus then took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also of the fish, as much as they wanted.And when they had eaten their fill, He* said to His disciples,“ Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.”So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said,“ This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”So Jesus, aware that they intended to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself, alone.

Then Jesus* said to him,“ Go away, Satan! For it is written:‘ You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’ ”

Jesus said to him,“ On the other hand, it is written:‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”

Then Elisha said,“ Listen to the word of the Lord; this is what the Lord says:‘ About this time tomorrow a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’ ”The royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning responded to the man of God and said,“ Even if the Lord were to make windows in heaven, could this thing happen?” Then he said,“ Behold, you are going to see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it.”

You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the entire nation of you!Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and put Me to the test now in this,” says the Lord of armies,“ if I do not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruit of your ground; nor will the vine in the field prove fruitless to you,” says the Lord of armies.

And His disciples replied to Him,“ Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”And He was asking them,“ How many loaves do you have?” And they said,“ Seven.”And He* directed the people to recline on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve, and they served them to the people.They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He told the disciples to serve these as well.And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces.About four thousand men were there; and He dismissed them.

And Jesus answered and said to him,“ It has been stated,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”

But Jesus said to them,“ They do not need to go; you give them something to eat!”They* said to Him,“ We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.”And He said,“ Bring them here to Me.”And ordering the crowds to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looked up toward heaven. He blessed the food and breaking the loaves, He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces: twelve full baskets.There were about five thousand men who ate, besides women and children.

Now a man came from Baal shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh grain in his sack. And Elisha said,“ Give them to the people that they may eat.”But his attendant said,“ How am I to serve this to a hundred men?” Nevertheless he said,“ Give them to the people that they may eat, for this is what the Lord says:‘ They shall eat and have some left over.’ ”So he served it to them, and they ate and had some left over, in accordance with the word of the Lord.

You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. And no one is to appear before Me empty handed.

from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty.I struck you and every work of your hands with scorching wind, mildew, and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,’ declares the Lord.‘ Do consider from this day onward, from the twenty fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the Lord was founded, consider:Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree, it has not produced fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.’ ”

But He* said to them,“ How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they* said,“ Five, and two fish.”And He ordered them all to recline by groups on the green grass.They reclined in groups of hundreds and fifties.And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He gave them to the disciples again and again to set before them; and He divided the two fish among them all.And they all ate and were satisfied;and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces of bread, and of the fish.There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.

But she said,“ As the Lord your God lives, I have no food, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks so that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”However, Elijah said to her,“ Do not fear; go, do as you have said. Just make me a little bread loaf from it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son.For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ The bowl of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil become empty, until the day that the Lord provides rain on the face of the earth.’ ”So she went and did everything in accordance with the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days.The bowl of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil become empty, in accordance with the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah.
