I adjure you by God, do not torment me.”For he was saying to him,“ Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”And Jesus asked him,“ What is your name?” He replied,“ My name is Legion, for we are many.”And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country.Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside,and they begged him, saying,“ Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.”So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea.The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened.And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs.And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region.As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him.

But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him.

And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic,“ Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.”And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves,“ This man is blaspheming.”But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said,“ Why do you think evil in your hearts?For which is easier, to say,‘ Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say,‘ Rise and walk’?But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”— he then said to the paralytic—“ Rise, pick up your bed and go home.”And he rose and went home.When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Others said,“ These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons.

And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.

So he gave them permission.Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.And those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed.Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.
