過了安息日，抹大拉的馬利亞、雅各的母親馬利亞和撒羅米，買了香膏，要去膏耶穌。禮拜日的大清早，出太陽的時候，她們就來到墳墓那裡，彼此說：“誰可以給我們輥開墓門的石頭呢？”原來那塊石頭非常大，她們抬頭一看，卻見石頭已經輥開了。她們進了墳墓，看見一位身穿白袍的青年，坐在右邊，就非常驚恐。那青年對她們說：“不要驚慌！你們尋找那釘十字架的拿撒勒人耶穌，他不在這裡，已經復活了；請看他們安放他的地方。你們去告訴他的門徒和彼得：他要比你們先到加利利去，你們在那裡必定看見他，正如他從前告訴你們的。”因為驚恐戰慄，她們一從墳墓出來就逃跑；由於害怕，她們甚麼也沒有告訴人。（有些抄本無第9至20節）

抹大拉的馬利亞和另一個馬利亞都在那裡，對著墳墓坐著。

禮拜日清早，天還沒有亮的時候，抹大拉的馬利亞來到墓旁，看見石頭已經從墳墓移開了。她就跑去見西門．彼得，和耶穌所愛的那個門徒，對他們說：“有人把主從墳墓裡搬走了，我們不知道他們把他放在哪裡。”彼得和那門徒就動身，到墳墓那裡去。兩個人一齊跑，那門徒比彼得跑得快，先到了墳墓，屈身向裡面觀看，看見細麻布還在那裡，但他卻沒有進去。西門．彼得隨後也到了；他進入墳墓，看見細麻布還放在那裡，也看見耶穌的裹頭巾，沒有和細麻布放在一起，而是捲著放在一邊。那時，先到墳墓的那門徒也進去，他看見，就信了。他們還不明白經上所說“他必須從死人中復活”這句話的意思。於是兩個門徒就回家去了。

就回去預備香料和香膏。安息日，她們遵著誡命安息。禮拜日大清早的時候，婦女們帶著預備好的香料，來到墳墓那裡，發現石頭已經從墳墓輥開了，就進去，卻找不著主耶穌的身體。她們正為此事猜疑的時候，忽然有兩個人，穿著閃爍耀目的衣服，站在她們旁邊。她們害怕，把臉伏在地上。那兩個人對她們說：“為甚麼在死人中找活人呢？他不在這裡，已經復活了。你們應當記得他還在加利利的時候，怎樣告訴你們，說：‘人子必須被交在罪人手裡，釘在十字架上，第三日復活。’”她們就想起他的話，於是從墳地回去，把這一切事告訴十一個使徒和其餘的人。那些婦女就是抹大拉的馬利亞，約亞拿和雅各的母親馬利亞，以及其他在一起的婦女，她們把這些事向使徒說了。

而且我們中間有幾個婦女使我們驚奇，她們清早到墳墓那裡去，
