saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said,“ What is that to us? You shall see to it yourself!”

They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.

The Jews answered him,“ We have a law, and by that law He ought to die, because He made Himself out to be the Son of God!”

And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.

And he said to them a third time,“ Why, what has this man done wrong? I have found in His case no grounds for a sentence of death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the Lord was unwilling to forgive.

For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens;

Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city and its inhabitants; for truly the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words so that you hear them.”

Samuel said,“ But why ask me, since the Lord has abandoned you and has become your enemy?And the Lord has done just as He spoke through me; for the Lord has torn the kingdom from your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.Just as you did not obey the Lord and did not execute His fierce wrath on Amalek, so the Lord has done this thing to you this day.Furthermore, the Lord will also hand Israel along with you over to the Philistines; so tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Indeed, the Lord will hand the army of Israel over to the Philistines!”Then Saul immediately fell full length to the ground and was very afraid because of Samuel’s words; there was no strength in him either, because he had eaten no food all day and all night.
