In reply all the people said,“ Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

All the people answered,“ His blood is on us and on our children!”

All the people answered,“ Put the blame for his death on us and our children!”

And all the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”

And all the people yelled back,“ We will take responsibility for his death— we and our children!”

All the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”

And all the people replied,“ His blood shall be on us and on our children!”

And all the people answered and said,“ His blood be on us and on our children.”

Then answered all the people, and said, His blood[ be] on us, and on our children.

All the people answered,“ May his blood be on us, and on our children!”

saying,“ We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name. Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood on us!”

Anyone who leaves your house will be responsible for his own death– we are innocent in that case! But if anyone with you in the house is harmed, we will be responsible.

who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us severely. They are displeasing to God and are opposed to all people,because they hinder us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. Thus they constantly fill up their measure of sins, but wrath has come upon them completely.

Someone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much greater punishment do you think that person deserves who has contempt for the Son of God, and profanes the blood of the covenant that made him holy, and insults the Spirit of grace?For we know the one who said,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” and again,“ The Lord will judge his people.”

Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They killed those who foretold long ago the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become!

And you say,‘ If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have participated with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’By saying this you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets.Fill up then the measure of your ancestors!You snakes, you offspring of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,so that on you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.I tell you the truth, this generation will be held responsible for all these things!“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

May the LORD punish him for the blood he shed; behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he– Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

You must not shed innocent blood in your land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, for that would make you guilty.

“ You must not pollute the land where you live, for blood defiles the land, and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed there, except by the blood of the person who shed it.

“ But suppose he in turn has a son who notices all the sins his father commits, considers them, and does not follow his father’s example.He does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains, does not pray to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor’s wife,does not oppress anyone or keep what has been given in pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his food to the hungry, and clothes the naked,refrains from wrongdoing, does not engage in usury or charge interest, carries out my regulations and follows my statutes. He will not die for his father’s iniquity; he will surely live.As for his father, because he practices extortion, robs his brother, and does what is not good among his people, he will die for his iniquity.“ Yet you say,‘ Why should the son not suffer for his father’s iniquity?’ When the son does what is just and right, and observes all my statutes and carries them out, he will surely live.The person who sins is the one who will die. A son will not suffer for his father’s iniquity, and a father will not suffer for his son’s iniquity; the righteous person will be judged according to his righteousness, and the wicked person according to his wickedness.“ But if the wicked person turns from all the sin he has committed and observes all my statutes and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.None of the sins he has committed will be held against him; because of the righteousness he has done, he will live.Do I actually delight in the death of the wicked, declares the sovereign LORD? Do I not prefer that he turn from his wicked conduct and live?“ But if a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and practices wrongdoing according to all the abominable practices the wicked carry out, will he live? All his righteous acts will not be remembered; because of the unfaithful acts he has done and the sin he has committed, he will die.“ Yet you say,‘ The Lord’s conduct is unjust!’ Hear, O house of Israel: Is my conduct unjust? Is it not your conduct that is unjust?When a righteous person turns back from his righteousness and practices wrongdoing, he will die for it; because of the wrongdoing he has done, he will die.When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.Because he considered and turned from all the sins he had done, he will surely live; he will not die.Yet the house of Israel says,‘ The Lord’s conduct is unjust!’ Is my conduct unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your conduct that is unjust?“ Therefore I will judge each person according to his conduct, O house of Israel, declares the sovereign LORD. Repent and turn from all your wickedness; then it will not be an obstacle leading to iniquity.Throw away all your sins you have committed and fashion yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why should you die, O house of Israel?For I take no delight in the death of anyone, declares the sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

“ As for you, son of man, are you willing to pronounce judgment, are you willing to pronounce judgment on the bloody city? Then confront her with all her abominable deeds!Then say,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: O city, who spills blood within herself( which brings on her doom), and who makes herself idols( which results in impurity),you are guilty because of the blood you shed and defiled by the idols you made. You have hastened the day of your doom; the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations, an object to be mocked by all lands.

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations of those who reject me,

When David later heard about this, he said,“ I and my kingdom are forever innocent before the LORD of the shed blood of Abner son of Ner!May his blood whirl over the head of Joab and the entire house of his father! May the males of Joab’s house never cease to have someone with a running sore or a skin disease or one who works at the spindle or one who falls by the sword or one who lacks food!”

Just as the LORD had announced, he rejected Judah because of all the sins which Manasseh had committed.Because he killed innocent people and stained Jerusalem with their blood, the LORD was unwilling to forgive them.

David said to him,“ Your blood be on your own head! Your own mouth has testified against you, saying‘ I have put the LORD’s anointed to death.’”

You must not pity him, but purge out the blood of the innocent from Israel, so that it may go well with you.

May no one show him kindness! May no one have compassion on his fatherless children!May his descendants be cut off! May the memory of them be wiped out by the time the next generation arrives!May his ancestors’ sins be remembered by the LORD! May his mother’s sin not be forgotten!May the LORD be constantly aware of them, and cut off the memory of his children from the earth!For he never bothered to show kindness; he harassed the oppressed and needy, and killed the disheartened.He loved to curse others, so those curses have come upon him. He had no desire to bless anyone, so he has experienced no blessings.He made cursing a way of life, so curses poured into his stomach like water and seeped into his bones like oil.May a curse attach itself to him, like a garment one puts on, or a belt one wears continually!

The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”

For her blood was in it; she poured it on an exposed rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it up with dust.To arouse anger, to take vengeance, I have placed her blood on an exposed rock so that it cannot be covered up.“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! I will also make the pile high.
