and all the elders of that city nearest the corpse must wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley.Then they must proclaim,“ Our hands have not spilled this blood, nor have we witnessed the crime.Do not blame your people Israel whom you redeemed, O LORD, and do not hold them accountable for the bloodshed of an innocent person.” Then atonement will be made for the bloodshed.

But they said,“ Not during the feast, so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”

God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.

Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.

But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a man who was a murderer be released to you.

Now when the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and what took place, they were extremely terrified and said,“ Truly this one was God’s Son!”

Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders,“ Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation against him.”

Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:“ They took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one whose price had been set by the people of Israel,

you say,‘ I have not done anything wrong, so the LORD cannot really be angry with me any more.’ But, watch out! I will bring down judgment on you because you say,‘ I have not committed any sin.’

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands clean with lye,then you plunge me into a slimy pit and my own clothes abhor me.

They say to a wooden idol,‘ You are my father.’ They say to a stone image,‘ You gave birth to me.’ Yes, they have turned away from me instead of turning to me. Yet when they are in trouble, they say,‘ Come and save us!’

As he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent a message to him:“ Have nothing to do with that innocent man; I have suffered greatly as a result of a dream about him today.”
