When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd.“ I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said.“ It is your responsibility!”

Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere. Instead, the crowd was starting to get angry. So he took water and washed his hands in front of them.“ I am not guilty of this man’s death,” he said.“ You are accountable for that!”

So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”

耶和华啊，我要洗手表明无辜，才环绕你的祭坛；

说：“我出卖了无辜人的血有罪了。”他们说：“那跟我们有什么相干？你自己承当吧！”

离尸体最近的那座城的每位长老要在山谷中，在颈项被打断的母牛犊上面洗手，声明说：‘我们的手未曾流这人的血；我们的眼也未曾看见这事。耶和华啊，求你赦免你所救赎的百姓以色列，不要让无辜的血归在你的百姓以色列中间。’这样，他们流血的罪就必得赦免。

可是他们说：“不可在过节的日子，恐怕百姓生乱。”

神使那无罪的，替我们成为罪，好使我们在他里面成为神的义。

因为基督也曾一次为罪受苦，就是义的代替不义的，为要引领你们到神面前。在肉体里，他被治死；但在灵里，他复活了。

你们弃绝了那圣洁公义者，反而要求释放一个凶手给你们。

百夫长和跟他一同看守耶稣的人看见地震和所经历的事，非常害怕，说：“他真是神的儿子！”

彼拉多又出来对众人说：“看，我带他出来见你们，让你们知道我查不出他有什么罪状。”

这就应验了先知耶利米所说的话：“他们用那三十块银钱，就是以色列人给那被估定的人所估定的价钱，

你还说：‘我无辜；耶和华的怒气必定转离我了。’看哪，我必审问你；因你自己说：‘我没有犯罪。’

我若用雪水洗身，用碱洁净我的手掌，你还要把我扔在坑里，我的衣服都憎恶我。

他们向木头说：‘你是我的父’；向石头说：‘你是生我的。’他们以背向我，不肯以面向我；及至遭遇患难时却说：‘起来拯救我们吧！’

正坐堂的时候，他的夫人打发人来说：“这义人的事，你一点不可管，因为我今天在梦中因他受了许多的苦。”
