耶穌說了這些話，就與他的門徒們一起出去，過了汲淪溪谷。在那裡有一個園子，耶穌和他的門徒們進去了。出賣耶穌的猶大也知道那地方，因為耶穌經常在那裡與他的門徒們一同聚集。於是猶大領著一隊士兵，還有祭司長們和法利賽人的差役們，帶著燈籠、火把、兵器來到那裡。耶穌知道就要臨到自己的一切，於是上前對他們說：「你們找誰？」他們回答：「拿撒勒人耶穌。」耶穌說：「我就是。」出賣他的猶大也與他們站在一起。耶穌一說「我就是」，他們就往後退，倒在地上。於是耶穌又問：「你們找誰？」他們說：「拿撒勒人耶穌。」耶穌回答：「我已經告訴你們『我就是』。因此，你們如果找我，就讓這些人走吧！」這是為要應驗耶穌說過的話：「你所賜給我的人，我一個也沒有丟失。」西門彼得帶著一把刀。他拔出刀來，向大祭司的奴僕砍去，削掉了他的右耳。那奴僕的名字是馬勒古。耶穌就對彼得說：「把刀收回鞘裡！父所賜給我的杯，我難道能不喝嗎？」
