「人子降臨時的情形將像挪亞的時代，人們吃喝嫁娶，一直到挪亞進入方舟那天，洪水來了，毀滅了他們；又像羅得的時代，人們吃喝、做買賣、耕地、蓋房。

我們要為人端正，光明磊落，不可荒宴醉酒、好色邪蕩、嫉妒紛爭。你們要活出主耶穌基督的榮美，不要只顧放縱罪惡本性的私慾。

可是，他們都找藉口推辭。頭一個說，『我剛買了一塊田，必須去看一看，請恕我不能參加。』另一個說，『我新買了五對牛，要去試一試，請恕我不能參加。』還有一個說，『我剛結了婚，所以不能去。』

「你們要小心，不要被宴樂、醉酒和人生的掛慮所拖累，免得那日子像網羅般突然臨到你們，

上帝的兒子們看見人的女兒漂亮，就隨意選來做妻子。

她回到家時，拿八正在大擺宴席，排場如御宴。她見拿八心情愉快，喝得酩酊大醉，就什麼也沒告訴他，等第二天早上再說。次日清晨，拿八酒醒以後，他妻子把發生的一切告訴他，他嚇得昏死過去，身體僵硬如石。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

但如果他以為主人不會那麼快回來，就毆打僕婢、吃喝醉酒，

看啊，你妹妹所多瑪和她的女兒們傲慢狂妄，安逸飽足，對窮困的人漠不關心。她們心驕氣傲，在我面前做可憎的事，我看見後便除掉了她們。

因為到復活的時候，人們將不娶也不嫁，就像天上的天使一樣。

那時，我就可以對自己說，「你積存這麼多財產，一生享用不盡，現在大可高枕無憂、盡情地吃喝玩樂吧！」』

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。但你們還是歡喜作樂，宰牛殺羊，喝酒吃肉，說：「讓我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就死了。」萬軍之耶和華啟示我說：「你們這罪到死也得不到赦免。這是主——萬軍之耶和華說的。」

挪亞與妻子、兒子們和兒媳們都進了方舟，躲避洪水。

你們以為災難的日子離得還遠，就大肆施行暴政。你們躺在象牙床上，靠在臥榻上，你們吃養在圈裡的肥嫩牛羊。你們伴著琴聲唱慵懶的歌，像大衛一樣為自己製造樂器。你們以大碗狂飲，用上等膏油抹身，卻漠不關心約瑟家的衰亡。

弟兄們，我告訴你們，時日不多了，從今以後，那些有妻子的，要像沒有妻子的；哭泣的，要像不哭泣的；歡喜的，要像不歡喜的；置業的，要像一無所有的。享用世界之物的，不要沉溺其中，因為現今的世界很快就要過去了。

他帶著大衛找到那裡，見亞瑪力人正散佈在田野間吃喝狂歡，因為他們從非利士和猶大搶奪了很多財物。大衛率領部下從黎明攻打他們，直到次日黃昏。除了四百個青年騎駱駝逃脫外，亞瑪力人全軍覆沒。
