耶路撒冷乎、嗟爾殘殺先知、石擊天主星使之耶路撒冷乎！吾之欲集爾子女、如牝雞之覆翼其雛者、不已頻乎？而爾終莫之許也。

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

“ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and throw stones in order to kill those who are sent to you. Many times I have wanted to gather your people together. I have wanted to be like a hen who gathers her chicks under her wings. And you would not let me!

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem! She who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, yet you were not willing!

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,[ thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under[ her] wings, and ye would not!

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings,So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him.

He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say,‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke,I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes,When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.“ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.

Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

Thus says the Lord:“ Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said,‘ We will not walk in it.’Also, I set watchmen over you, saying,‘ Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said,‘ We will not listen.’

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,

“ Nevertheless they were disobedient And rebelled against You, Cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets, who testified against them To turn them to Yourself; And they worked great provocations.

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,

However I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying,“ Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!”

and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited,‘ Come, for all things are now ready.’But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him,‘ I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’And another said,‘ I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’Still another said,‘ I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’

and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying,‘ Turn now everyone from his evil way, amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them; then you will dwell in the land which I have given you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear, nor obeyed Me.

and say,‘ If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

and said to them,“ Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your petition before Him:‘ If you will still remain in this land, then I will build you and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up. For I relent concerning the disaster that I have brought upon you.Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not be afraid of him,’ says the Lord,‘ for I am with you, to save you and deliver you from his hand.And I will show you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and cause you to return to your own land.’“ But if you say,‘ We will not dwell in this land,’ disobeying the voice of the Lord your God,

But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We will not have this man to reign over us.’“ And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.Then came the first, saying,‘ Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’And he said to him,‘ Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’And the second came, saying,‘ Master, your mina has earned five minas.’Likewise he said to him,‘ You also be over five cities.’“ Then another came, saying,‘ Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief.For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’And he said to him,‘ Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow.Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’“ And he said to those who stood by,‘ Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.’( But they said to him,‘ Master, he has ten minas.’)‘ For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’”When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples,saying,“ Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.And if anyone asks you,‘ Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him,‘ Because the Lord has need of it.’”So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them.But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them,“ Why are you loosing the colt?”And they said,“ The Lord has need of him.”Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,saying:“‘ Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd,“ Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”But He answered and said to them,“ I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,saying,“ If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord.Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said,“ The Lord look on it, and repay!”

And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them.

And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.

For I earnestly exhorted your fathers in the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, until this day, rising early and exhorting, saying,“ Obey My voice.”Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone followed the dictates of his evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but which they have not done.’”

“ Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me!There shall be no foreign god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.“ But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.

O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.

“ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, None at all exalt Him.

“ In vain I have chastened your children; They received no correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.

And they brought Urijah from Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

Be instructed, O Jerusalem, Lest My soul depart from you; Lest I make you desolate, A land not inhabited.”

“ But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.

“ Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.”’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.

Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.“ Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’

And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.Again he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’

Why, when I came, was there no man? Why, when I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Indeed with My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; Their fish stink because there is no water, And die of thirst.

As they called them, So they went from them; They sacrificed to the Baals, And burned incense to carved images.

“ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the Lord has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, but you have not listened.And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear.They said,‘ repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers forever and ever.Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you.’Yet you have not listened to Me,” says the Lord,“ that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
