I will mock you when disaster overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you.“ When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord.They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them.Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.For simpletons turn away from me— to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.

And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king— bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.’”

Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed,“ What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!”Jesus replied with this story:“ A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations.When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests,‘ Come, the banquet is ready.’

“ Again and again the Lord has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:“ Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.

but only to the people of Israel— God’s lost sheep.Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.

The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news.

Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!
