I, the Lord, am your God, Who brought you up from the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.“ But My people did not listen to My voice, And Israel did not obey Me.So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk by their own plans.

“ You there! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance.

So My people are determined to turn from Me. Though they call them to the One on high, None at all exalts Him.

and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

But as for Israel, He says,“ I have spread out My hands all day long to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;And you neglected all my advice And did not want my rebuke;I will also laugh at your disaster; I will mock when your dread comes,When your dread comes like a storm And your disaster comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but will not find me,Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord.They did not accept my advice, They disdainfully rejected every rebuke from me.So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own schemes.For the faithlessness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.

The more they called them, The more they went away from them; They kept sacrificing to the Baals And burning incense to idols.

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her young under her wings, and you were unwilling!

As soon as you enter the city you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat, for the people will not eat until he comes, because he must bless the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited will eat. Now then, go up, for you will find him about this time.”

And He* summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;and He instructed them that they were to take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff— no bread, no bag, no money in their belt—but to wear sandals; and He added,“ Do not wear two tunics.”And He said to them,“ Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town.Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet as a testimony against them.”

“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him.

Wisdom has built her house, She has carved out her seven pillars;She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table;She has sent out her attendants, she calls out From the tops of the heights of the city:

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

Now when one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him,“ Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”But He said to him,“ A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many;and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited,‘ Come, because everything is ready now.’

And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets again and again, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear,

For this is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said:“ In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength.” But you were not willing,

but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.And as you go, preach, saying,‘ The kingdom of heaven has come near.’

The Lord gives the command; The women who proclaim good news are a great army:

See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns us from heaven.
