But He began to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard and leased it to vine growers, and went on a journey for a long time.At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine growers, so that they would give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine growers beat him and sent him away empty handed.And he proceeded to send another slave; but they beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty handed.And he proceeded to send a third; but this one too they wounded and threw out.Now the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What am I to do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’But when the vine growers saw him, they discussed with one another, saying,‘ This is the heir; let’s kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’And so they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them?He will come and put these vine growers to death, and will give the vineyard to others.” However, when they heard this, they said,“ May it never happen!”But Jesus looked at them and said,“ Then what is this statement that has been written:‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone’?Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and yet they feared the people; for they were aware that He had spoken this parable against them.

And He began to speak to them in parables:“ A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, and dug a vat under the wine press and built a tower, and leased it to vine growers and went on a journey.And at the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine growers, in order to receive his share of the produce of the vineyard from the vine growers.And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty handed.And again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.And he sent another, and that one they killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others.He had one more man to send, a beloved son; he sent him to them last of all, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those vine growers said to one another,‘ This is the heir; come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!’And they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and put the vine growers to death, and give the vineyard to others.Have you not even read this Scripture:‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone;This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”And they were seeking to seize Him, and yet they feared the people, for they understood that He told the parable against them. And so they left Him and went away.

“ I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

Yet I planted you as a choice vine, A completely faithful seed. How then have you turned yourself before Me Into the degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?

Solomon had a vineyard at Baal hamon; He entrusted the vineyard to caretakers. Each one was to bring a thousand shekels of silver for its fruit.My very own vineyard is at my disposal; The thousand shekels are for you, Solomon, And two hundred are for those who take care of its fruit.”

“ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said,‘ Son, go work today in the vineyard.’

Of Levi he said,“ Let Your Thummim and Your Urim belong to Your godly man, Whom You tested at Massah, With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;Who said of his father and his mother,‘ I did not consider them’; And he did not acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he regard his own sons, For they kept Your word, And complied with Your covenant.They will teach Your ordinances to Jacob, And Your Law to Israel. They shall put incense before You, And whole burnt offerings on Your altar.

“ Listen then to the parable of the sower.

So He said,“ A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then to return.

“ You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

So you shall come to the Levitical priests or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the verdict.Then you shall act in accordance with the terms of the verdict which they declare to you from that place which the Lord chooses; and you shall be careful to act in accordance with everything that they instruct you to do.In accordance with the terms of the law about which they instruct you, and in accordance with the verdict which they tell you, you shall act; you shall not turn aside from the word which they declare to you, to the right or the left.But the person who acts insolently by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to the judge, that person shall die; so you shall eliminate the evil from Israel.

You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared the ground before it, And it took deep root and filled the land.The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the cedars of God with its branches.It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the Euphrates River.Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?A boar from the forest eats it away, And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.God of armies, do turn back; Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,The shoot which Your right hand has planted, And of the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself.It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish from the rebuke of Your face.

Then you will know that I have sent this commandment to you, so that My covenant may continue with Levi,” says the Lord of armies.“ My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him as an object of reverence; so he revered Me and was in awe of My name.True instruction was in his mouth and injustice was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and justice, and he turned many back from wrongdoing.For the lips of a priest should maintain knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of armies.But as for you, you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by the instruction; you have ruined the covenant of Levi,” says the Lord of armies.“ So I also have made you despised and of low reputation in the view of all the people, since you are not keeping My ways but are showing partiality in the instruction.”

So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and informed men, and appointed them as heads over you, commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens, and officers for your tribes.“ Then I ordered your judges at that time, saying,‘ Hear the cases between your fellow countrymen and judge righteously between a person and his fellow countryman, or the stranger who is with him.You are not to show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You are not to be afraid of any person, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too difficult for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.’

saying:“ The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses.

And Micaiah said,“ Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the angels of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left.

Listen to the word of the Lord, you sons of Israel, Because the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land, For there is no faithfulness, nor loyalty, Nor knowledge of God in the land.

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.

and say,‘ Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Behold I am going to bring a disaster upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle.

Hear the word of the Lord, You rulers of Sodom; Listen to the instruction of our God, You people of Gomorrah!
