Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him.“ By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked.“ And who gave you this authority?”

而彼欺凌其鄰者嚴拒之曰：「孰令長吾而為司讞？

顧語眾曰：『爾手刃持梃、捕予一如捕盜。予曩者日坐殿中施訓於爾、何不執之？

耶穌日訓殿中、而司祭長經生及諸紳正謀所以置諸死地、苦無良策；蓋民皆樂聆其訓、為之神往。一日、耶穌在殿施訓於民、宣講福音、司祭長、經生、長老、進而謂之曰：『請示吾儕、爾憑何權行此一切？且孰授爾以斯權耶？』耶穌應曰：『予亦欲質爾一詞、請爾答覆、如望之洗禮、自天乎？抑自人乎？』若輩乃互議曰：『如謂自天、彼將曰胡不信之；若云自人、又恐犯眾怒、而遭石擊、蓋眾皆確信如望之為先知也。』遂答以不知其所自。耶穌曰：『然則予亦不願告爾、憑何權以行此矣。』

耶穌復進耶路撒冷、行聖殿中。司祭長經生長老進而問曰：『爾憑何權為此種切？且孰授爾以此權耶？』耶穌曰：『予亦欲問爾、爾如答我、則予當告爾何權行此：如望之洗、自天乎？抑自人乎？請答。』若輩竊議曰：『如云自天、必曰何不信之。若謂自人、眾又可畏、蓋眾皆確認如望為先知也。』乃答不知。耶穌曰：『則吾亦不願告爾憑何權而行此矣。』
