耶穌從那裡往前走，看見另外兩個兄弟，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他弟弟約翰，正在船上與他們的父親西庇太一起修補漁網。耶穌就召喚他們，

這時候，忽然有一個痲瘋病人前來拜他，說：「主啊，如果你願意，你就能潔淨我。」

其中有茉大拉的瑪麗亞、雅各和約西的母親瑪麗亞，以及西庇太兒子們的母親。

這時候，西庇太的兒子雅各和約翰來到耶穌面前，說：「老師，如果我們向你求什麼，希望你為我們成全。」耶穌問他們：「要我為你們做什麼呢？」他們說：「請准許我們在你的榮耀裡，一個坐在你的右邊，一個坐在你的左邊。」耶穌就說：「你們不知道自己在求什麼。我所喝的杯，你們能喝嗎？我所受的洗禮，你們能受嗎？」他們回答說：「我們能。」耶穌就說：「我所喝的杯你們將要喝，我所受的洗禮你們將要受。但是坐在我的右邊或左邊，不是我所賜的，而是已經預備給誰，就賜給誰。」其他十個使徒聽了，就開始對雅各和約翰很不滿。於是耶穌把他們召來，對他們說：「你們知道，外邦人有所謂為首的壓制他們，也有為大的管轄他們。但你們當中卻不是這樣；相反，無論誰想在你們當中為大，誰就該做你們的僕人；無論誰想在你們當中為首，誰就該做大家的奴僕。要知道，就是人子來，也不是為了受人的服事，而是為了服事人，並且獻上自己的生命，替許多人做救贖的代價。」

還有一些婦女從遠處觀看，其中有茉大拉的瑪麗亞、小雅各和約西的母親瑪麗亞，以及莎羅美。

船上的人都拜耶穌，說：「你真是神的兒子！」

他們進了屋子，看見那孩子與他的母親瑪麗亞在一起，就俯伏拜那孩子，然後打開他們的寶盒，把黃金、乳香和沒藥做為禮物獻給他。

那婦人來拜他，說：「主啊，求你幫助我！」

他們看見耶穌，就拜他，不過還有人疑惑。
