But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee,

But then he heard that Archelaus was king of Judea. Archelaus was ruling in place of his father Herod. This made Joseph afraid to go there. Joseph had been warned in a dream. So he went back to the land of Galilee instead.

But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee.

But when he learned that the new ruler of Judea was Herod’s son Archelaus, he was afraid to go there. Then, after being warned in a dream, he left for the region of Galilee.

約瑟與瑪利亞遵主律法、行諸事畢、乃歸迦利利之故邑拿撒勒、

在急難時哀求主、主乃救之脫於禍患、引之行平坦之道、至有人居之城邑、

思念此事之時、有主之使者、夢中現於彼曰、大衛之裔約瑟乎、可娶爾妻瑪利亞以歸、毋疑懼、蓋所孕者、由聖神也、

因主永遠為我儕之天主、必引導我儕至於死時、

博士於夢中得默示、令勿返見希律、乃由他道歸故土、博士既去、主之使者夢中現於約瑟曰、起、攜嬰兒與其母、奔伊及、寓彼、待我再示爾、因希律將索嬰兒滅之、

主必賜訓以引導我、後必接我入榮耀、

亞拿尼亞對曰、主、我聞多人言、此人在耶路撒冷、大困苦爾之聖徒、今在此、有由祭司諸長所得之權、以縛凡籲爾名者、

眾答曰、爾亦迦利利人乎、可考而知、從無先知由迦利利起者、

爾出爾入、主必保護爾、從今日至於永遠、

撒母耳曰、我如何可往、倘掃羅聞之必殺我、主曰、可攜一犢、言我來欲獻祭於主、

救贖爾之以色列聖主如是云、我即爾之天主、訓爾以有益之事、導爾以當行之道、嗟呼、爾未聽我命、若聽之、則爾之平康、如河之流、爾之福澤、福澤或作仁義如海之浪、

希律既卒、主之使者在伊及、夢中現於約瑟曰、起、

有曰、是基督、有曰、基督豈出自迦利利乎、經非云、基督為大衛之裔、出自伯利恆、大衛所居之鄉乎、
