Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked,“ Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

法利赛人前来试探耶稣，说：“人根据某些理由休妻，可以吗？”

有些法利赛人前来试探耶稣，说：“无论出于什么缘故，人是否可以休妻呢？”

有法利賽人來試探耶穌，說：「人無論甚麼緣故都可以休妻嗎？」

有法利賽人就而試之曰、人無論何故、出妻可乎、

有法利賽人來試之曰：『人可任憑何故而出其妻乎？』

Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking,“ Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question:“ Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Then some Pharisees came to him in order to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful to divorce a wife for any cause?”

Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked,“ Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife?”

There your people of long ago tested me. Yet for 40 years they saw what I did.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus. They asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

They sent their followers to him. They sent the Herodians with them.“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know that you are a man of honor. You teach the way of God truthfully. You don’t let others tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are.Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not?”But Jesus knew their evil plans. He said,“ You pretenders! Why are you trying to trap me?

They were trying to trap Jesus with that question. They wanted to have a reason to bring charges against him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question.

Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew what they were trying to do. So he asked,“ Why are you trying to trap me? Bring me a silver coin. Let me look at it.”

Later the religious leaders sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus. They wanted to trap him with his own words.

When Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law strongly opposed him. They threw a lot of questions at him.They set traps for him. They wanted to catch him in something he might say.

“ It has been said,‘ Suppose a man divorces his wife. If he does, he must give her a letter of divorce.’( Deuteronomy 24:1)But here is what I tell you. Anyone who divorces his wife makes her a victim of adultery. And anyone who gets married to the divorced woman commits adultery. A man may divorce his wife only if she has not been faithful to him.

You ask,“ Why?” It’s because the Lord is holding you responsible. He watches how you treat the wife you married when you were young. You have been unfaithful to her. You did it even though she’s your partner. You promised to stay married to her. And the Lord was a witness to it.Hasn’t the one God made the two of you one also? Both of you belong to him in body and spirit. And why has the one God made you one? Because he wants his children to be like him. So be careful. Don’t be unfaithful to the wife you married when you were young.“ Suppose a man hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord God of Israel.“ Then he is harming the one he should protect,” says the Lord who rules over all. So be careful. And don’t be unfaithful.
