Jesus said to his disciples,“ Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.

於是耶穌對門徒說：『我實在告訴你們，有錢的要進天國難哪！

耶穌對他的門徒們說：「我確實地告訴你們：富有的人進入天國會很困難。

耶穌謂其徒曰、我誠語汝、富者入天國、難矣哉、

耶穌乃謂門徒曰：『我實語爾、難矣哉、富人之進天國也！

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.

And Jesus said to his disciples,“ Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.

Then Jesus said to His disciples,“ I assure you: It will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven!

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ I tell you the truth, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven!

Jesus said to his disciples,“ Most certainly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty.

Now the one sown among the thorns— this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,“ How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”

Seeing that he became sad, Jesus said,“ How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you.Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.

Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.

When you eat and are full, you will bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.“ Be careful that you don’t forget the LORD your God by failing to keep his commands, ordinances, and statutes that I am giving you today.When you eat and are full, and build beautiful houses to live in,and your herds and flocks grow large, and your silver and gold multiply, and everything else you have increases,be careful that your heart doesn’t become proud and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.He led you through the great and terrible wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, a thirsty land where there was no water. He brought water out of the flint rock for you.He fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your ancestors had not known, in order to humble and test you, so that in the end he might cause you to prosper.You may say to yourself,‘ My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,’but remember that the LORD your God gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm his covenant he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

“ There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day.But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was lying at his gate.He longed to be filled with what fell from the rich man’s table, but instead the dogs would come and lick his sores.One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.And being in torment in Hades, he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side.‘ Father Abraham!’ he called out,‘ Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!’“‘ Son,’ Abraham said,‘ remember that during your life you received your good things, just as Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, while you are in agony.Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’“‘ Father,’ he said,‘ then I beg you to send him to my father’s house—because I have five brothers— to warn them, so that they won’t also come to this place of torment.’

Jesus replied,“ Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Anyone trusting in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.

Yet you have dishonored the poor. Don’t the rich oppress you and drag you into court?

Do not be afraid when a person gets rich, when the wealth of his house increases.For when he dies, he will take nothing at all; his wealth will not follow him down.Though he blesses himself during his lifetime— and you are acclaimed when you do well for yourself—he will go to the generation of his ancestors; they will never see the light.

“ When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that he would give you— a land with large and beautiful cities that you did not build,houses full of every good thing that you did not fill them with, cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant— and when you eat and are satisfied,be careful not to forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.

Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor wealth; feed me with the food I need.Otherwise, I might have too much and deny you, saying,“ Who is the LORD?” or I might have nothing and steal, profaning the name of my God.

Let the brother of humble circumstances boast in his exaltation,but let the rich boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field.For the sun rises and, together with the scorching wind, dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance perishes. In the same way, the rich person will wither away while pursuing his activities.

“ Truly I tell you,” he said,“ unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus answered,“ Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

strengthening the disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith and by telling them,“ It is necessary to go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”

He then told them,“ Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”Then he told them a parable:“ A rich man’s land was very productive.He thought to himself,‘ What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops?I will do this,’ he said.‘ I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there.Then I’ll say to myself,“ You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’“ That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,if I have rejoiced because my wealth is great or because my own hand has acquired so much,

They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God—

No servant can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing at him.

Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
