Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.

Now people were even bringing their babies to him for him to touch. But when the disciples saw it, they began to scold those who brought them.But Jesus called for the children, saying,“ Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.I tell you the truth, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

He called a child, had him stand among them,and said,“ I tell you the truth, unless you turn around and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven!Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.And whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me.

For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

After these things Joseph was told,“ Your father is weakening.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him.

Once she had weaned him, she took him up with her, along with three bulls, an ephah of flour, and a container of wine. She brought him to the LORD’s house at Shiloh, even though he was young.

So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him:“ God forbid, Lord! This must not happen to you!”

John answered,“ Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he is not a disciple along with us.”But Jesus said to him,“ Do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”

The crowd scolded them to get them to be quiet. But they shouted even more loudly,“ Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”

May he increase your numbers, yours and your children’s!May you be blessed by the LORD, the creator of heaven and earth!

I will give them a single-minded purpose to live in a way that always shows respect for me. They will want to do that for their own good and the good of the children who descend from them.

Now when his disciples James and John saw this, they said,“ Lord, do you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”But Jesus turned and rebuked them,

Joseph said to his father,“ They are the sons God has given me in this place.” His father said,“ Bring them to me so I may bless them.”Now Israel’s eyes were failing because of his age; he was not able to see well. So Joseph brought his sons near to him, and his father kissed them and embraced them.Israel said to Joseph,“ I never expected to see you again, but now God has allowed me to see your children too.”So Joseph moved them from Israel’s knees and bowed down with his face to the ground.Joseph positioned them; he put Ephraim on his right hand across from Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh on his left hand across from Israel’s right hand. Then Joseph brought them closer to his father.Israel stretched out his right hand and placed it on Ephraim’s head, although he was the younger. Crossing his hands, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, for Manasseh was the firstborn.Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked– the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day,the Angel who has protected me from all harm– bless these boys. May my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. May they grow into a multitude on the earth.”When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him. So he took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.Joseph said to his father,“ Not so, my father, for this is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head.”But his father refused and said,“ I know, my son, I know. He too will become a nation and he too will become great. In spite of this, his younger brother will be even greater and his descendants will become a multitude of nations.”So he blessed them that day, saying,“ By you will Israel bless, saying,‘ May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim before Manasseh.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified because of the wife, and the unbelieving wife because of her husband. Otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.
