The disciples* said to Him,“ If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry.”

The disciples said to him,“ If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.

I think, then, that this is good in view of the present distress, that it is good for a man to remain as he is.Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife.But if you marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Yet such people as yourselves will have trouble in this life, and I am trying to spare you.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord.

Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is good for a man not to touch a woman.But because of sexual immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband.

It is better to live on a corner of a roof Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.

It is better to live in a desert land Than with a contentious and irritating woman.

But refuse to register younger widows, for when they feel physical desires alienating them from Christ, they want to get married,thereby incurring condemnation, because they have ignored their previous pledge.At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also they become gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention.Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, have children, manage their households, and give the enemy no opportunity for reproach;for some have already turned away to follow Satan.

Drink water from your own cistern, And fresh water from your own well.Should your springs overflow into the street, Streams of water in the public squares?Let them be yours alone, And not for strangers with you.Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth.Like a loving doe and a graceful mountain goat, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.

A foolish son is destruction to his father, And the quarrels of a wife are a constant dripping.House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord.

A wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.But in my opinion she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife,and his interests are divided. The woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.I say this for your own benefit, not to put a restraint on you, but to promote what is appropriate and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord.

Then the Lord God said,“ It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”
