耶穌警告他們，囑咐他們，不要把這事告訴人。又說：“人子必須受許多苦，被長老、祭司長，和經學家棄絕、殺害，第三日復活。”

但我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，可是人們卻不認識他，反而任意待他。照樣，人子也要這樣被他們苦待。”

她父母非常驚奇。耶穌囑咐他們不要把他所作的事告訴人。

耶穌回答：“狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，但人子卻沒有棲身﹙“棲身”原文作“枕頭”。﹚的地方。”

又說：“經上這樣記著：基督必須受害，第三天從死人中復活。人要奉他的名，傳講悔改與赦罪的道，從耶路撒冷起，直傳到萬國。

於是耶穌吩咐門徒不可對人說他就是基督。從那時起，耶穌開始向門徒指出，他必須往耶路撒冷去，受長老、祭司長和經學家許多的苦害，並且被殺，第三天復活。

鞭打他，殺害他；第三日他要復活。”這些話的含義對門徒是隱藏的。他們聽了，一點也不明白，不知道他說的是甚麼。
