说了这些话以后约有八天，耶稣带着彼得、约翰、雅各上山去祷告。正祷告的时候，他的面貌改变了，衣服洁白放光。忽然有摩西和以利亚两个人同耶稣说话；他们在荣光里显现，谈论耶稣去世的事，就是他在耶路撒冷将要完成的事。彼得和他的同伴都打盹，但一清醒，就看见耶稣的荣光和与他一起站着的那两个人。二人正要和耶稣分离的时候，彼得对耶稣说：“老师，我们在这里真好！我们来搭三座棚，一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”他却不知道自己在说些什么。说这些话的时候，有一朵云彩来遮盖他们；他们一进入云彩就很惧怕。有声音从云彩里出来，说：“这是我的儿子，我所拣选的。你们要听从他！”声音停止后，只见耶稣独自一人。当那些日子，门徒保持沉默，不把所看见的事告诉任何人。

于是他带着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰同去，不许别人跟着他。

我们同他在圣山的时候，亲自听见这声音从天上出来。

这是我第三次要到你们那里去。“任何指控都要凭两个或三个证人的口述才能成立。”

过了六天，耶稣带着彼得、雅各、约翰，领他们悄悄地上了高山。他在他们面前变了形像，衣服放光，极其洁白，地上漂布的人没有一个能漂得那样白。有以利亚和摩西向他们显现，并且与耶稣说话。彼得对耶稣说：“拉比，我们在这里真好！我们来搭三座棚，一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”彼得不知道说什么才好，因为他们很害怕。有一朵云彩来遮盖他们，又有声音从云彩里出来，说：“这是我的爱子，你们要听从他！”门徒连忙向周围观看，不再看见任何人，只见耶稣同他们在一起。下山的时候，耶稣嘱咐他们说：“人子还没有从死人中复活，你们不要把所看到的告诉人。”门徒将这话存记在心，彼此议论“从死人中复活”是什么意思。他们就问耶稣：“文士为什么说以利亚必须先来？”耶稣说：“以利亚的确先来复兴万事。经上不是指着人子说，他要受许多的苦和被人轻慢吗？我告诉你们，以利亚已经来了，他们任意待他，正如经上指着他说的。”

耶稣到了他的家，除了彼得、约翰、雅各，和女儿的父母，不许别人同他进去。
