說了這些話以後、約有八天，耶穌帶着彼得約翰雅各上山去禱告。正禱告的時候、他臉面的樣子完全改變了。他的服裝閃耀得很白。忽有兩個人、就是摩西和以利亞、跟他一同談話；他們在榮光中出現，談論耶穌的去世，就是耶穌在耶路撒冷將要成就的事。彼得和跟他在一起的人因眼睛發沉而打瞌睡；既清醒了就看見耶穌的榮光、和跟他一同站着的那兩個人。二人正要和耶穌分離的時候、彼得對耶穌說：『老師，我們在這裏真好；容我們搭三座帳棚吧，一座給你，一座給摩西，一座給以利亞』——不曉得自己在說甚麼。他說這些話的時候，有一朵雲來蔭蔽着他們；他們正入雲的時候、就起了懼怕的心。有聲音從雲中說：『這是我的兒子、我揀選的；你們要聽他。』那聲音說了話、只見耶穌獨在。當那些日子、他們閉口不言；所看見的事一樣也沒有傳報給人。

他不許任何人跟隨着他，只許彼得雅各和雅各的兄弟約翰。

於是帶着彼得和西庇太的兩個兒子到一邊去，就憂愁起來，極其難過。

這從天上傳出來的聲音、我們真地聽見了，因為我們和他同在聖山上。

這是我第三次要到你們那裏去的。『各樣事實都必須憑着兩個或三個見證人親口所說以確定的。』

過了六天，耶穌帶着彼得雅各約翰，領他們上了高山，單獨地另在一處。在他們面前他變了形質了：他的衣裳閃耀發光，極其之白；地上漂布的沒有一個能使它白到那樣。有以利亞同摩西現給他們看見；跟耶穌一同談話。彼得大聲對耶穌說：『老師，我們在這裏真好：容我們搭三座棚吧：一座給你，一座給摩西，一座給以利亞。』他不曉得該說甚麼；因為他們非常懼怕。當下有一朵雲遮蔽着他們；從雲中有聲音說：『這是我的兒子、我所愛的，你們要聽他。』猝然間周圍一看，他們再也不見一人，只有耶穌獨自同他們在一起。他們從山上下來的時候，耶穌叮囑他們、非等到人子從死人中復起以後、不要將所看見的向人敘說。他們就將這事守祕密，彼此討論從死人中復起是甚麼意思。又詰問耶穌說：『經學士為甚麼說以利亞必須先來呢？』耶穌對他們說：『「以利亞先來、復興萬事！」那麼那指着人子、說他該受許多苦、並被藐視、是怎麼記載的呢？其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人竟任意而待他，正如經上指着他所記載的。』

來到那家的時候，耶穌不許任何人同他進去，只許彼得約翰雅各跟那女孩子的父親和母親。
