Others said,“ He’s the prophet Elijah.” Still others said,“ He’s a prophet like the other great prophets of the past.”

he said to his advisers,“ This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles.”

“ Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives.

When the crowds heard him say this, some of them declared,“ Surely this man is the Prophet we’ve been expecting.”Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others said,“ But he can’t be! Will the Messiah come from Galilee?

Then the Pharisees again questioned the man who had been blind and demanded,“ What’s your opinion about this man who healed you?” The man replied,“ I think he must be a prophet.”

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them,“ Who do people say I am?”“ Well,” they replied,“ some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead.”

Then his disciples asked him,“ Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?”

There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some argued,“ He’s a good man,” but others said,“ He’s nothing but a fraud who deceives the people.”

“ Well,” they replied,“ some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets.”

Others thought Jesus was Elijah or one of the other prophets risen from the dead.

“ Well then, who are you?” they asked.“ Are you Elijah?”“ No,” he replied.“ Are you the Prophet we are expecting?”“ No.”
