Jesus and his disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them,“ Who do people say I am?”“ Well,” they replied,“ some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets.”Then he asked them,“ But who do you say I am?” Peter replied,“ You are the Messiah.”

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said,“ Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”

Then he said,“ I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”

Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.

“ But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne.

And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man.

Jesus replied,“ The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed.

For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.

But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

And he told them,“ Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand!”

As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

For the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

The crowd responded,“ We understood from Scripture that the Messiah would live forever. How can you say the Son of Man will die? Just who is this Son of Man, anyway?”

Because God’s children are human beings— made of flesh and blood— the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham.Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.
