“ Well,” they replied,“ some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

They said,“ Some say John the Baptizer, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

Others said,“ He is Elijah.” Still others claimed,“ He is a prophet. He is like one of the prophets of long ago.”

He said to his attendants,“ This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead! That is why he has the power to do miracles.”

“ I will send the prophet Elijah to you. He will come before the day of the Lord arrives. It will be a great and terrifying day.

The people heard his words. Some of them said,“ This man must be the Prophet we’ve been expecting.”Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others asked,“ How can the Messiah come from Galilee?

Then they turned again to the blind man.“ What do you have to say about him?” they asked.“ It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied,“ He is a prophet.”

One day Jesus was praying alone. Only his disciples were with him. He asked them,“ Who do the crowds say I am?”They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. Still others say that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”

The disciples asked him,“ Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah has to come first?”

Many people in the crowd were whispering about him. Some said,“ He is a good man.” Others replied,“ No. He fools the people.”

They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. Still others say one of the prophets.”

Others were saying that Elijah had appeared. Still others were saying that a prophet of long ago had come back to life.

They asked him,“ Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet we’ve been expecting?” they asked.“ No,” he answered.
