They answered,“ Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Others said,“ He is Elijah.” Others said,“ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

and he said to his servants,“ This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead! And because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”

Look, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD arrives.

When they heard these words, some of the crowd began to say,“ This really is the Prophet!”Others said,“ This is the Christ!” But still others said,“ No, for the Christ doesn’t come from Galilee, does he?

So again they asked the man who used to be blind,“ What do you say about him, since he caused you to see?”“ He is a prophet,” the man replied.

Once when Jesus was praying by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them,“ Who do the crowds say that I am?”They answered,“ John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.”

The disciples asked him,“ Why then do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”

There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some were saying,“ He is a good man,” but others,“ He deceives the common people.”

They said,“ John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”

while others were saying that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen.

So they asked him,“ Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not!”“ Are you the Prophet?” He answered,“ No!”
