They said,“ Some say John the Baptizer, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

But others were saying,“ He is Elijah.” And others were saying,“ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

and said to his servants,“ This is John the Baptist; he himself has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”

“ Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.

Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying,“ This truly is the Prophet.”Others were saying,“ This is the Christ.” But others were saying,“ Surely the Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He?

So they* said again to the man who was blind,“ What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said,“ He is a prophet.”

And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying,“ Who do the people say that I am?”They answered and said,“ John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”

And His disciples asked Him,“ Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

And there was a great deal of talk about Him in secret among the crowds: some were saying,“ He is a good man”; others were saying,“ No, on the contrary, He is misleading the people.”

They told Him, saying,“ John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”

and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.

And so they asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” And he* said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet?” And he answered,“ No.”
