有一次，耶穌獨自禱告的時候，門徒也在旁邊。耶穌問他們：「人們說我是誰？」他們答道：「有人說你是施洗者約翰，也有人說你是以利亞，或是一位復活的古代先知。」耶穌對他們說：「那麼，你們說我是誰？」彼得回答說：「你是上帝所立的基督。」

耶穌和門徒前往凱撒利亞·腓立比境內的村莊。在路上，祂問門徒：「別人說我是誰？」他們說：「有人說你是施洗者約翰，有人說你是以利亞，有人說你是眾先知中的一位。」耶穌又問他們：「那麼，你們說我是誰？」彼得回答說：「你是基督！」

因為就連人子也不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」

如今我要讓你們知道人子在世上有赦罪的權柄。」於是祂對癱子說：「起來！收拾你的擔架回家去吧。」

我實實在在地告訴你們，你們會看見天門敞開，上帝的天使以人子為梯上上下下。」

說話得罪人子的，還可以得到赦免；但那些說話冒犯聖靈的，今生永世都得不到赦免。

「當人子在祂的榮耀中與眾天使降臨的時候，祂要坐在榮耀的寶座上，

摩西在曠野怎樣舉起銅蛇，人子也必照樣被舉起來，

又把審判的權柄交給祂，因為祂是人子。

耶穌說：「那撒下好種子的就是人子，

約拿在大魚腹中三日三夜，人子也要在地裡三日三夜。

人子也將派天使把一切引人犯罪和作孽的人從祂國裡挑出來，

耶穌說：「狐狸有洞，飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有安枕之處。」

耶穌從那裡退到泰爾和西頓境內。

司提凡說：「看啊！我看見天開了，人子站在上帝的右邊。」

「我在夜間的異象中看見一位像人子的，駕著天雲而來，到亙古長存者那裡，被引到祂面前。

「在這淫亂、罪惡的世代，如果有人以我和我的道為恥，人子在父的榮耀中與聖天使再來的時候，也要以他為恥。」

因為人子是安息日的主。」

你們也知道，拿撒勒人耶穌是上帝用聖靈和大能膏立的。祂周遊四方，廣行善事，醫好被魔鬼壓制的人，因為上帝與祂同在。

眾人問：「我們從律法書上知道，基督是永遠長存的，你怎麼說『人子要被舉起來』呢？這人子是誰呢？」

因為眾兒女都是血肉之軀，所以祂也同樣取了血肉之軀，為要親身經歷死亡，藉此摧毀掌握死亡權勢的魔鬼，釋放那些因怕死而一生做奴隸的人。很明顯，祂要救助的不是天使，而是亞伯拉罕的後裔。所以祂必須在每一方面都與祂的弟兄姊妹相同，以便在事奉上帝的事上成為一位仁慈忠信的大祭司，替眾人獻上贖罪祭。祂經歷過受試煉的痛苦，所以能幫助受試煉的人。
