当时人数约有四千。耶稣解散了群众，

那一天，耶稣从房子里出来，坐在海边。

事后耶稣立刻催门徒上船，叫他们先渡到对岸的伯赛大去，等他自己叫众人散开。

彼得说：“请你给我们解释这个比喻吧。”耶稣说：“你们还是不明白吗？

于是他的门徒中有几个彼此说：“他对我们说：‘不久，你们不会看见我；再过不久，你们还要看见我。’又说：‘因为我到父那里去。’这是什么意思呢？”他们又说：“他所说的‘不久’，是什么意思呢？我们不晓得他在讲什么。”耶稣知道他们想问他，就说：“我所说的‘不久，你们不会看见我；再过不久，你们还要看见我’，你们为了这话彼此议论吗？我实实在在告诉你们，你们要痛哭哀号，世人却要欢喜；你们要忧愁，但你们的忧愁要变为喜乐。

他回答：“天国的奥秘，只给你们知道，却不给他们知道。

耶稣进了房子，他们来到他那里。耶稣问他们：“你们信我能作这些事吗？”他们回答：“主啊，我们信。”

耶稣离开群众，进了屋子，门徒就来问他这比喻的意思。

耶稣立刻催门徒上船，叫他们先到对岸去，他却留下来叫群众散开。

耶稣解散了群众，就上了船，来到马加丹地区。

不用比喻，就不对他们讲。只有单独和自己的门徒在一起的时候，才把一切解释给他们听。
