But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,And kept back[ part] of the price, his wife also being privy[ to it], and brought a certain part, and laid[ it] at the apostles’ feet.But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back[ part] of the price of the land?Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried[ him] out, and buried[ him].And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.And they all with one[ consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart[ upon them].

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for[ riches] certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but,[ as] the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw[ him] running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said,[ Is] all well?And he said, All[ is] well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid[ them] upon two of his servants; and they bare[ them] before him.And when he came to the tower, he took[ them] from their hand, and bestowed[ them] in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence[ comest thou], Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.And he said unto him, Went not mine heart[ with thee], when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee?[ Is it] a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper[ as white] as snow.

There is a sore evil[ which] I have seen under the sun,[ namely], riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and[ there is] nothing in his hand.
