When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?[ What] and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you,[ they] are spirit, and[ they] are life.But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any[ man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?He spake of Judas Iscariot[ the son] of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform[ it] until the day of Jesus Christ:

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.Now the just shall live by faith: but if[ any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

And he said to[ them] all, If any[ man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

And ye shall be hated of all[ men] for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

For what[ is] the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

The wicked desireth the net of evil[ men]: but the root of the righteous yieldeth[ fruit].
