If you should say,‘ How shall we persecute him?’— Since the root of the matter is found in me,

who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them,“ Does this offend you?What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.And He said,“ Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

Then Jesus said to His disciples,“ If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Jesus answered them and said,“ Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica— Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.

“ I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them,“ A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”

But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

Peter answered and said to Him,“ Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Jesus answered them,“ Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:“ For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

“ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?Will God hear his cry When trouble comes upon him?Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

Then Jesus said to them,“ All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:‘ I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
