For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.

If you say,“ How will we pursue him, since the root of the problem lies with him?”

You are being protected by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

For both circumcision and uncircumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My name.It will lead to an opportunity for you to witness.Therefore make up your minds not to prepare your defense ahead of time,for I will give you such words and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.You will even be betrayed by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will kill some of you.You will be hated by everyone because of My name,but not a hair of your head will be lost.

“ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters— yes, and even his own life— he cannot be My disciple.Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.“ For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?Otherwise, after he has laid the foundation and cannot finish it, all the onlookers will begin to make fun of him,saying,‘ This man started to build and wasn’t able to finish.’“ Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with 10,000 to oppose the one who comes against him with 20,000?If not, while the other is still far off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not say good-bye to all his possessions cannot be My disciple.

Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples were complaining about this, asked them,“ Does this offend you?Then what if you were to observe the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?The Spirit is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.But there are some among you who don’t believe.”( For Jesus knew from the beginning those who would not believe and the one who would betray Him.)He said,“ This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted to him by the Father.”

Then Jesus said to His disciples,“ If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?

This you know: All those in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Jesus answered,“ I assure you: You are looking for Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.

Those who are persecuted for righteousness are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.“ You are blessed when they insult and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me.Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

for Demas has deserted me, because he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

I know where you live— where Satan’s throne is! And you are holding on to My name and did not deny your faith in Me, even in the days of Antipas, My faithful witness who was killed among you, where Satan lives.

And they were offended by Him. But Jesus said to them,“ A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his household.”

And the seed on the rock are those who, when they hear, welcome the word with joy. Having no root, these believe for a while and depart in a time of testing.

Peter told Him,“ Even if everyone runs away because of You, I will never run away!”

The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love.

The words of his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.

The one who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me. Where I am, there My servant also will be. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

Jesus replied to them,“ Didn’t I choose you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is the Devil!”He was referring to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, one of the Twelve, because he was going to betray Him.

I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised.For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, I have no pleasure in him.But we are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and obtain life.

“ Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.Then many will take offense, betray one another and hate one another.

Man cannot be made secure by wickedness, but the root of the righteous is immovable.

But when the sun came up they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered.

For what hope does the godless man have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?

Then Jesus said to them,“ Tonight all of you will run away because of Me, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

Those who want to make a good impression in the flesh are the ones who would compel you to be circumcised— but only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

The wicked desire what evil men have, but the root of the righteous produces fruit.

Summoning the crowd along with His disciples, He said to them,“ If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me and the gospel will save it.For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world yet lose his life?

On that day many will say to Me,‘ Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’Then I will announce to them,‘ I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’
