These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.They have no root in themselves, but are short- lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

Saul said,“ No man shall be put to death today; for today Yahweh has rescued Israel.”Then Samuel said to the people,“ Come! Let’s go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.”All the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before Yahweh in Gilgal. There they offered sacrifices of peace offerings before Yahweh; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.

Others fell on rocky ground, where they didn’t have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of earth.When the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away.
