When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him,“ See, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him,“ Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”

The Pharisees saw this. They said to Jesus,“ Look! It is against the Law to do this on the Sabbath day. But your disciples are doing it anyway!”

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him,“ Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”

But some Pharisees saw them do it and protested,“ Look, your disciples are breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath.”

Now when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him,“ Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath!”

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him,“ Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”

But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

There he saw a man who had a shriveled hand, and in order to accuse him they asked him,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

“ I performed one work, and you are all amazed,” Jesus answered.“ This is why Moses has given you circumcision— not that it comes from Moses but from the fathers— and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses won’t be broken, are you angry at me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath?Stop judging according to outward appearances; rather judge according to righteous judgment.”

In response, Jesus asked the law experts and the Pharisees,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”

You are to labor six days and do all your work,but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You must not do any work— you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates.For the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.

In order to accuse him, they were watching him closely to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath.He told the man with the shriveled hand,“ Stand before us.”Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.After looking around at them with anger, he was grieved at the hardness of their hearts and told the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.Jesus responded to them,“ My Father is still working, and I am working also.”

As he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath,a woman was there who had been disabled by a spirit for over eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.When Jesus saw her, he called out to her,“ Woman, you are free of your disability.”Then he laid his hands on her, and instantly she was restored and began to glorify God.But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, responded by telling the crowd,“ There are six days when work should be done; therefore come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.”But the Lord answered him and said,“ Hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you untie his ox or donkey from the feeding trough on the Sabbath and lead it to water?Satan has bound this woman, a daughter of Abraham, for eighteen years— shouldn’t she be untied from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”When he had said these things, all his adversaries were humiliated, but the whole crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things he was doing.

On another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled.The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely, to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.But he knew their thoughts and told the man with the shriveled hand,“ Get up and stand here.” So he got up and stood there.Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”After looking around at them all, he told him,“ Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his hand was restored.They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.

For six days work is to be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy day, a Sabbath of complete rest to the LORD. Anyone who does work on it must be executed.

The day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath.Then the Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight.“ He put mud on my eyes,” he told them.“ I washed and I can see.”Some of the Pharisees said,“ This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying,“ How can a sinful man perform such signs?” And there was a division among them.

Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat, and started to walk. Now that day was the Sabbath,and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed,“ This is the Sabbath. The law prohibits you from picking up your mat.”He replied,“ The man who made me well told me,‘ Pick up your mat and walk.’”

“ If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on my holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking business;

“ Do your work for six days but rest on the seventh day so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave as well as the resident alien may be refreshed.

Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.The Israelites must observe the Sabbath, celebrating it throughout their generations as a permanent covenant.It is a sign forever between me and the Israelites, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.”

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the entire community.They placed him in custody because it had not been decided what should be done to him.Then the LORD told Moses,“ The man is to be put to death. The entire community is to stone him outside the camp.”So the entire community brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
