只要憑着信心求，一點也不疑惑；因為那疑惑的人，就像海中的波浪被風吹動翻騰。

這樣，我們不再作小孩子，中了人的詭計和欺騙的法術，被一切邪說之風搖動，飄來飄去。

約翰是點亮的明燈，你們情願因他的光歡欣一時。

在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路。」照這話，施洗約翰來到曠野，宣講悔改的洗禮，使罪得赦。猶太全地和全耶路撒冷的人都出去，到約翰那裏，承認他們的罪，在約旦河裏受他的洗。

約翰所差來的人一走，耶穌就對眾人談到約翰，說：「你們從前到曠野去，是要看甚麼呢？被吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去到底是要看甚麼？穿細軟衣服的人嗎？看哪，那穿華麗衣服、宴樂度日的人是在王宮裏。你們出去究竟是要看甚麼？是先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們，他比先知大多了。這個人就是經上所說的：『看哪，我要差遣我的使者在你面前，他要在你前面為你預備道路。』我告訴你們，凡女子所生的，沒有比約翰大的；但在上帝國裏，最小的比他還大。」眾百姓和稅吏已受過約翰的洗，聽見這話，就以上帝為義；但法利賽人和律法師沒有受過約翰的洗，竟廢棄了上帝為他們所定的旨意。

所以，你們應當小心怎樣聽。因為凡有的，還要給他；凡沒有的，連他自以為有的也要奪去。」

那時，耶路撒冷、全猶太和全約旦河地區的人，都到約翰那裏去，

約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是從天上來的，還是從人間來的呢？」他們彼此商議說：「我們若說『從天上來的』，他會對我們說：『這樣，你們為甚麼不信他呢？』

他就走遍約旦河一帶地方，宣講悔改的洗禮，使罪得赦。正如以賽亞先知書上所記的話：「在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路！一切山窪都要填滿；大小山岡都要削平！彎彎曲曲的地方要改為筆直；高高低低的道路要改為平坦！凡有血肉之軀的，都要看見上帝的救恩！」！”約翰對那出來要受他洗的眾人說：「毒蛇的孽種啊，誰指示你們逃避那將要來的憤怒呢？

耶穌轉過身來，看見他們跟着，就問他們說：「你們要甚麼？」他們對他說：「拉比，你在哪裏住？」（「拉比」翻出來就是老師。）

我有此意，難道是反覆不定嗎？難道我的意願是從私慾起的，以致我忽是忽非嗎？我指着信實的上帝說，我們向你們所傳的道並非又是又非的。

在那些日子，施洗的約翰出來，在猶太的曠野宣講：「你們要悔改！因為天國近了。」這人就是以賽亞先知所說的：「在曠野有聲音呼喊着：預備主的道，修直他的路。」

你卻放縱如水，必不得居首位；因為你上了你父親的床，你上了我的榻，污辱了它！
