Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,of whom it was said,“ In Isaac your seed shall be called,”

Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel— he was indeed the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright;yet Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came a ruler, although the birthright was Joseph’s—

The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael.

And Joshua said to all the people,“ Thus says the Lord God of Israel:‘ Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods.Then I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River, led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac.To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

“ But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

And Abraham begot Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel.

Now these were the names of the children of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who went to Egypt: Reuben was Jacob’s firstborn.The sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman.The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah( but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvah, Job, and Shimron.The sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.These were the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan Aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the persons, his sons and his daughters, were thirty-three.The sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.The sons of Asher were Jimnah, Ishuah, Isui, Beriah, and Serah, their sister. And the sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel.These were the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob: sixteen persons.The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife, were Joseph and Benjamin.And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.The sons of Benjamin were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.These were the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: fourteen persons in all.The son of Dan was Hushim.The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob: seven persons in all.All the persons who went with Jacob to Egypt, who came from his body, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, were sixty-six persons in all.And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who went to Egypt were seventy.

For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him— whom Sarah bore to him— Isaac.Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him.”

“ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you.Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes.His eyes are darker than wine, And his teeth whiter than milk.

These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by the daughter of Shua, the Canaanitess. Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; so He killed him.And Tamar, his daughter-in-law, bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara— five of them in all.The son of Carmi was Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the accursed thing.The son of Ethan was Azariah.

So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said,“ The Lord has surely looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me.”Then she conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.She conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.And she conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand were sealed;

And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has judged my case; and He has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.And Rachel’s maid Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.Then Rachel said,“ With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and indeed I have prevailed.” So she called his name Naphtali.When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, she took Zilpah her maid and gave her to Jacob as wife.And Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a son.Then Leah said,“ A troop comes!” So she called his name Gad.And Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.Then Leah said,“ I am happy, for the daughters will call me blessed.” So she called his name Asher.Now Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah,“ Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”But she said to her,“ Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?” And Rachel said,“ Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”When Jacob came out of the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said,“ You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” And he lay with her that night.And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.Leah said,“ God has given me my wages, because I have given my maid to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar.Then Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.And Leah said,“ God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name Zebulun.

Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her,“ Do not fear; you will have this son also.”And so it was, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.All those who were descendants of Jacob were seventy persons( for Joseph was in Egypt already).

For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but,“ In Isaac your seed shall be called.”That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.For this is the word of promise:“ At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac( for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls),it was said to her,“ The older shall serve the younger.”As it is written,“ Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”

the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

“ I have loved you,” says the Lord.“ Yet you say,‘ In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the Lord.“ Yet Jacob I have loved;But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”
