But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

耶稣对他说：“狐狸有洞，天空的飞鸟有窝，人子却没有枕头的地方。”

耶穌說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，只是人子沒有枕頭的地方。」

耶穌曰、狐有穴、鳥有巢、惟人子無枕首之所也、

耶穌應之曰：『狐有丘、鳥有巢、人子獨無枕首地。』

Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

And Jesus said to him,“ Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Jesus told him,“ Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

And Jesus said to him,“ The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

And Jesus said to him,“ Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Jesus told him,“ Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”

And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air[ have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay[ his] head.

Jesus said to him,“ Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?

“ If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else— your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters— yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.“ But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.They would say,‘ There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’“ Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him?And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away.So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.

You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

Then Joshua warned the people,“ You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy and jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.If you abandon the Lord and serve other gods, he will turn against you and destroy you, even though he has been so good to you.”But the people answered Joshua,“ No, we will serve the Lord!”“ You are a witness to your own decision,” Joshua said.“ You have chosen to serve the Lord.”“ Yes,” they replied,“ we are witnesses to what we have said.”

Many of his disciples said,“ This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?”Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining, so he said to them,“ Does this offend you?Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again?The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.But some of you do not believe me.”( For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.)Then he said,“ That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.”At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!

When Jesus heard his answer, he said,“ There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich.
