當他接近城門口的時候，看哪，有一個死人被抬出來了。這人是獨生兒子，他的母親又是寡婦。一大群城裡的人陪著她。

這個人聽說耶穌從猶太來到加利利，就到耶穌那裡去，請求他下去治癒他的兒子，因為他的兒子快要死了。

這時候，忽然來了一個住在那地區的迦南婦人，她呼叫說：「主啊，大衛的後裔，可憐我吧！我的女兒有鬼魔附身，痛苦萬分。」

這時候，來了一個名叫睚魯的人，他是一個會堂主管。他俯伏在耶穌腳前，懇求耶穌到他家裡去，因為他有一個約十二歲的獨生女兒，快要死了。耶穌去的時候，人群擁擠著他。

我們回答我主：『我們還有年老的父親和最小的弟弟，他是父親年老時生的孩子，他的哥哥死了，他是他母親留下來唯一的孩子，所以父親很疼愛他。』

「我必把恩惠和懇求的靈傾注於大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們將仰望我，就是他們所刺的那一位。他們將為他哀哭，哀號如喪獨生子；他們將為他悲痛，悲痛如喪長子。
