What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?

What good is it if someone gains the whole world but loses or gives up their very self?

For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?

For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself?

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches,None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him—For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever—

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—
